COVID-19 Webinar Series
We're excited to announce Cooperation Buffalo's COVID-19 Response Collaborative Webinar Series.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how utterly unprepared our political and economic institutions are to respond to public health crises. But for the working class and marginalized communities, our economic system has consistently failed to provide basic material necessities and foster healthy communities.
Simply put, capitalism is the crisis.
Join Cooperation Buffalo, PUSH Buffalo, and Preservation Buffalo Niagara in a series of conversations about how we can emerge from this crisis with the institutions and movements we need to build the world we want.
All webinars are free and open to the public! You can now register for our first webinar, which will be held on July 3. Please see the details below:
From Mutual Aid To Solidarity Economy
Wednesday, June 3, 6pm-7:30pm
In Buffalo and around the country, communities have come together to take care of each other during the COVID-19 crisis. Mutual Aid efforts, built on the premise of "solidarity, not charity", have connected community members to the resources that they need. But Mutual Aid can’t, on its own, solve the systemic issues of our economy.
Returning our economy to "normal", which has been run on exploitation, racism, and oppression, is not an option. How do we transition from Mutual Aid to a Solidarity Economy that prioritizes cooperation, equity, health, and sustainability?
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
Additional Upcoming Webinars:
Co-Op 101: What are Worker Cooperatives?
Wednesday, June 17, 6pm-7:30pm
Let’s build an economy based on cooperation, not competition! In this discussion, we’ll be introducing several types of cooperative institutions, with a focus on Worker Co-Ops. In Worker Cooperatives, workers, not bosses, decide what they produce, how it is produced, and what they do with the profits. Come learn how we can democratize the economy and how you can join the Co-Op movement!
Share the Weight: Transitioning Your Business to Worker-Ownership
Wednesday, July 1, 6pm-7:30pm
Worker Cooperatives are not just a more democratic way to produce goods and services, they also do better than traditional businesses during economic crises. Rather than closing your business because of COVID-19, we introduce you to an alternative: sell it to your workers! We will explain the conversion process, and how to connect you with financing to make the sale.
We'll have the registration information for the upcoming webinars available soon.
